Beacon Centre Community Garden & Kitchen Project

Introduction

The Beacon Community Garden & Kitchen is a new initiative that will transform unused outdoor areas around The Beacon Community Centre into a vibrant, resident-led community garden.

What We’re Looking to Create
The Community Garden: A vibrant, organic growing space where residents cultivate fresh produce using sustainable methods such as no-dig gardening, composting, rainwater harvesting, and pollinator-friendly planting.

The Community Kitchen: A welcoming community kitchen where harvested produce is turned into nutritious vegetarian meals. These meals will be stored in dedicated fridges and freezers for local collection and shared at monthly community lunches.

This project is led by YouGrow CIC, in collaboration with The Beacon Centre and Our Exeter CIC, and is proudly funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Together, we are working to create a space that reflects the values of Beacon Heath: resilience, inclusivity, and care for the environment.

Ways to get Involved
We warmly invite Beacon Heath residents to take part in the Beacon Community Garden & Kitchen. There are many ways to get involved, whether you’re keen to get your hands in the soil, share your cooking skills, or bring creative ideas to the table:
• Volunteer in the garden – help with planting, watering, and caring for crops.
• Hands-on garden making – build planters, prepare beds, and support ongoing maintenance.
• Join the kitchen team – assist in preparing meals and supporting monthly community lunches.
• Help shape the project – contribute ideas, co-create recipes, and take part in garden planning.

How to Get Involved

In addition, you can join our informal meet-up & garden space walk on Sunday 14th December at 10:00am at The Beacon Centre. This will be a relaxed opportunity to explore the garden site, meet the team, and hear more about how you can get involved.
